ABOUT ME

My first experience with decoupage was around age 9 at Camp Waldemar in Texas where I collaged wildflowers images cut from magazines to a wooden plaque. Growing up, I always loved art and being creative. I earned a BFA from The University of Michigan, with a concentration in Graphic Design. That lead me to pent 16 years in Chicago pursuing a career in Advertising and Marketing. As a Creative Director, I worked on a variety of clients, including Disney and Kraft Foods. In 2013, after leaving agency-life, I started a freelance design business. In 2020, with the pandemic and subsequent quarantine, business slowed. I had new found time on my hands and decided to revisit my love of the fine arts. While clearing out my art supply closet, I came across a stack of Japanese papers and some glue. I began by decoupaging holiday ornaments, then moved to glass bowls. Almost overnight, an obsession was born! I love how much depth an image has when it is placed behind glass. I love deconstructing an image, seeing it differently and collaging it with other visuals to create something new. Decoupage also satisfies my decades-long obsession with handmade papers, especially Japanese Chiyogami, Indian Cotton Rag and Thai Marbled papers. I am self-taught with the aid of books and You-Tube “how-to” videos. I work out of my Northfield, Illinois studio which is attached to the home where I live with my husband and two children, son Ryan (6) and daughter Bryn (5).
